Lisa Lindsey, Ph.D.

Lisa Lindsey, Ph.D. is a Research and Health Communication Fellow with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lisa works as part of a multi-disciplinary prevention research branch that develops, implements, and evaluates interventions that lead to the prevention of birth defects and developmental disabilities. She has held teaching and research appointments at various universities including the UC Davis Cancer Center, University of Georgia, Michigan State University, and two California State Universities (Sacramento and Long Beach). Lisa earned her doctorate from Michigan State University in Communication, emphasizing social influence processes in health and interpersonal contexts, as well as social scientific research methodologies and statistics.

Lisa joined the Board because of her dedication to cancer-related research. She was the caregiver for her brother, Michael, who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia when he was 12 years-old, and who died when he was 15 years-old. Since that time, Lisa has conducted research related to cancer prevention, bone marrow donation, and cancer patient coping. She is continuing her research with the UC Davis Cancer Center, including new research related to reducing disparities in cancer.
